Manta rays are tamable aquatic mobs that can be ridden.
Manta rays spawn in water between layers 46 and sea level, and spawn in ocean and the deep variant of these biomes.
Manta rays drop 1 to 3 experience if killed by the player or a tamed wolf. Otherwise, they drop nothing.
Manta rays wander around aimlessly in water. They are passive, and will not poison the player if touched or provoked. They are rather large mobs, and once they are fully grown, are three blocks wide and three blocks long.
Like other aquatic mobs, manta rays will take damage and die if beached onto land.
Similar to taming a horse, manta rays need to be mounted several times before they can be 'ridden' and then be tamed. Unlike horses, no saddle is required and there are no food items that can reduce the temper of untamed manta rays. Instead, the player has to keep right-clicking on it until the naming screen appears.
Once tamed, a manta ray can then be named. They may also be tamed by right clicking on one with a fish net. A fish net can be used to move tamed manta rays.
A manta ray can be ridden by the player without the use of a saddle, as previously mentioned. They are quite slow in the water, but they can be sped up with speed potions.
