A chest is a block that can be used to give mobs an inventory.
Killing the carrier of a chest (e.g. a mule) will drop a chest upon death.
|Any Wood Planks|
Chests are naturally generated in dungeons, strongholds, jungle temples, desert temples, nether fortresses, villages, end cities, end ships, igloos and woodland mansions. Minecarts with chests, which when broken will drop a chest, a minecart, and any contents of the chest, are naturally generated in abandoned mineshafts.
A chest can be added to a big cat, bear, mule, pegasus, dark pegasus, fairy horse, manticore, ostrich, skeleton pegasus, undead pegasus, wyvern or zonkey by pressing right-click on a big cat, bear, mule, pegasus, dark pegasus, fairy horse, manticore, ostrich, skeleton pegasus, undead pegasus, wyvern or zonkey. The mob can only wear the chest if it is fully grown and tame to the player.
A chest attached to a wyvern has only 9 slots, a chest attached to a pegasus, undead pegasus, skeleton pegasus, dark pegasus or fairy horse has 15 slots, a chest attached to a big cat, bear, manticore,or ostrich has 18 slots, and a chest attached to a zonkey or mule has 27 slots. The chest cannot be removed except by killing the carrier, right-clicking on the mob with shears, or by placing it in an amulet. The chest can be opened by holding sneak and pressing right-click.
Prior to DEV v8.0.0, if a mob was equipped with a chest, a key would appear in the player's inventory. This key could be used to open the mount's inventory by right-clicking on it.
- It is possible to get an undead unicorn with a chest. This can be achieved by using an essence of undead on a fairy horse.
